Whatever, Man.

I'm still grinning about this episode. Forget all the hoopla over the Dharma business or The Others or saving Jack... Forget that a plane full of people crashed on a (semi)deserted island and the bad luck that haunts the survivors.
I loved the VW van! My parents had a couple of Hippie vans, actually. I could FEEL what it was like to race down that hill and pop the clutch to get the motor running. I traveled cross-country with my mom and brothers in a 1970 VW van. It was dark green with a white top and outfitted with curtains my mom had made. There were so many times on that crazy trip that we would have to find rest stops on a hill just so we could get a rolling start to back on the road again.
Great memories, man.

As for the show... I think my favorite part was when Hurley smacked Charlie and told him to "snap out of it." Charlie was more eloquent with his "Victory or Death" comment as they sat in the van at the top of the hill. But Hurley's line of looking death in the face and saying, "Whatever, man" was the best! This was one of the funniest shows I've seen. Sawyer was a line a minute... could you count all the TV show references? He's hysterical. He's so endearing in his Bad Boy way.
Back to the van: What a crazy turn for the dog to lead Hurley to a VW van in the jungle with a dead guy named Roger inside who had died while out on a beer run! Genius. I'd love to know how that came up in a plot-line meeting.
And thank goodness there was beer in there, otherwise Sawyer would've stayed on the beach.
Ha!
I'm sure every car fanatic out there will poke holes in the whole thing... like why the tires weren't flat... why the gas tank wasn't corrupted by water... yada yada. But it was pretty cute, wasn't it? And the "lucky" rabbit foot on the key chain was a nice touch.
Hope. The islanders needed it... but I think we, the fans, did, too. A little hope... and and little fun.
As for the ending... pretty interesting. So Alex is the daughter of the Jungle Woman? (What's her name??? I forget.) And how did Kate know?

Comments

We've known (or at least suspected) that Alex was Rousseau's daughter for a LONG time! It's no surprise that Kate knew; Rousseau told the Losties about her daughter Alex, who was taken by the others as a baby, way before this season started.

KATHARYN: Thanks for clearing that up for me!

I guess that comment was a bit harsh; sorry 'bout that. The writing of Kate's line at the end pissed me off because it seemed like such bad writing when Kate added "I think she's your daughter." That seemed to me to be pretty redundant after stating that there's a 16-year-old girl named Alex. But I guess the writers have to kick in the extra info for new viewers, and for people who generally wouldn't remember the significance of these details. It still made the line's delivery come off as awkward, though, which is a horrible way to end an episode!

Speaking of TV references, was Tricia Tanaka a reference to the TV show "Family Guy"? ("Asian Reporter Tricia Takanawa")

wow nice to see the boats have been sent i was hopeing the pillow was sent out also and bank???
maybe hope so
well here is what is up next on lost

ENTER 77 - March 7th

'Fore mentioned eye patch guy appears in this Sayid centric episode with a lot to say about Dharma. The rumor is, we will know what the connection is between Dharma and the Others in this episode, and may even learn something absolutely stunning concerning the mysterious operation. Could the "Game Changer" finally be here? Also, if you watched previews last week, you know that Marvin Candle makes an appearance, another good source says look for Mrs. Klugh to accompany him in the final orientation film (Remember her, from three minutes?)

PAR AVION - March 14

Claire decides to use carrier pigeons to get them rescued, but aside from that we also learn in this episode whether or not Claire and Jack are brother and sister.

The Man From Tallahassee - March 21

How was Locke paralyzed? You find out in this episode! Also, Ben is going to offer Locke some of the island's mysteries if he calls off his attack.

EXPOSE - March 28

Take a trip back in time and see the plane crash through the eyes of Nikki and Paulo! This episode also brings us the return of Boone and Shannon, in flash back of course. Personally I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the return of Doc Arzt, but we'll see.
HAVE A NICE DAY GUTSCH

Jaws reference

Anyone catch the Jaws reference -- Sawyer singing the song that Quint, Hooper and Brody were singing when they were out looking for the shark -- right before all hell broke loose!

Comments

Anyone question why Juliet had a blue bandage on her tummy? When she shows Jack her branding you see her trying to cover it up - is this what they meant by branding? They give her an injection the same way she gave it to her sister to get her pregnant?!! The kidnapped kids and the needle injection that gives you kids must be linked!

More Lost loose ends

"Stranger in a Strange Land" really sucked me in.
I kept looking at the time because I was afraid the episode was going to end any second, and there were so many things I wanted to understand. (And of course, KNEW I wouldn't... but that's part of the charm, right?)
A few questions were answered, but so many new ones replaced them.
We know:
•   Juliet and the Others do not live on the island where they're keeping Jack. That's just where they “work.” Of course, all of that should be in past tense now, since they abandoned the island and headed for "home." Where-ever that is.
•   Cindy, the stewardess from Flight 815, is okay and has some pretty healthy-looking kids.
But what was she there “to watch?” An execution? Too bad. Jack saved the day.
•   Sawyer is completely and undeniably in love with Kate. She’s the woman he’d “name stars with.” So what’s her deal? So… she wants to rescue Jack. Does that mean anything more than just that? Honestly, who could walk away from a friend in a dangerous situation and just forget about it?
•   The Others steal children “to give them a better life,” according to Karl. But what does that mean?
But here’s what really stood out for me:

•   The symbol on Juliet’s back is similar to the Buddhist Wheel of Life and its Four Truths which encapsulate exactly what is going on in Lost.
(LINK: http://www2.bremen.de/info/nepal/Gallery-2/Wheel/Wheel-Expl.htm)
It’s also similar to a version of a sun symbol that is a tribute to the god of Thunder or the sky god, Taranis. The only thing is that both of these have a circle around them. Juliet’s did not. It was a combination of a cross and an “x”. Maybe I’m reaching here, but the Buddhist Wheel of Life really fits.
The real meat, to me, centered on Jack.
•   The title of the episode, “Stranger in a Strange Land” is an interesting choice. •   Since a book of the same title chronicles a man abducted by aliens and who winds up being a sort of messiah or savior.
(LINK: http://www.wegrokit.com/stranger_in_a_strange_land.htm)
Which brings me to Jack. Is he a messiah? A god? THE Messiah returned? Here’s why I think this:
•   The woman who gave Jack the tattoo fearfully explained that “her gift” lets her see who people are. “It’s not a decoration. It’s a definition.” But she was certainly afraid of what she saw in Jack.
•   So what did she see? “You are a leader. A Great Man. But this, this makes you lonely and frightened and angry.” Damn. She nailed it. But there’s that “Great Man” thing again.
•   In the beginning of the episode… I thought it was a little funny how Tom said to Jack, “Why would we want to kill YOU?” I noticed the emphasis on YOU.
•   And then at the end, The Sheriff points out her translation of Jack’s tattoo: Jack’s tattoo: “He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us.”
•   Well. Juliet is not one of “them” anymore, either. Now that she’s “marked.”
Anybody think I'm nuts? Wait. That's a given.

Comments

This show is asking many more questions than it is answering. I loved the original premise. But now we have a whole new island of people that I'm just not interested in. What about Michael and Walt. So they built Walt up to have this special ability and then we drop him like a hot potato. That's bad planning. What about Rose and Bernard? When do we see real commitment and love on an adventure show? What about Sun and her husband (he hasn't been on for so long I've forgotten his name). What about Penny's scientists who found the source of the energy burst? We haven't heard any more about that either.
I think the problem with the writer's on this show is that they haven't written a book. If you create characters and clues you should follow through and resolve them. All the writers seem to do here is add more clues, more characters and more questions without resolving anything, except for occasionally killing off a character or two.

I'm trying to figure out who this person is that is reuniting with the group on the island next week. I've stared at the back of the head of this woman for a while saying "Who is that!" So who is that!

a side note

yeah! my boat came. now i can sit in it while watching lost and eating dharma crackers.

thanks guys

I completely agree with Yale. My husband and I are growing tired of the new stories while so much is unaswered. We are on the verge of not watching any more. I look at a show like Heroes, which is of lesser quality than Lost, tie up ends, answer questions AND generate new ones, and it's much more satisfying to watch then Lost has become. If they don't change pace, we're done watching- a few of my co-workers have already stopped...

I love the creativity in this show. One of my main issues with it (in additions to the above, with which I agree) is that people just don't behave realistically. If I were trapped on an island, I would not be falling in love, nor would I be content to sit in a camp eating food that fell from the sky while doing laundry. I would collecting info, assigning tasks, and taking stock of what we knew, with the hope that as a group we could act cohesively and wisely. Instead, the "leader" hides info from everyone and all the other crash victims might as well not even be there. The show is becoming dumb in my opinion. It needs to progress and the plot threads need to tighten up and close, and soon!

I think some of you are getting upset too early in the season...Does something incredibly exciting have to happen every second for all of you to be happy with a show. I think the world has finally stopped reading books and become so impatient that a really good story will never be able to be told with properly paced crescendos of character development while twined together with the pace of the plot.
I'm still excited about how the writers are going to wrap it all up. I think it's fun to be frustrated with the speed of the plot development...it makes you want more, makes you think more........But I guess people don't want to think anymore, they just want everything so easy...

The overall project name is "life Extension." Perhaps they discovered that predistination is one of the primary problems to living forever. They are experimenting with ways to get around it; the magnetic hatching being one of them.

Flashes Before Your Eyes

WARNING: THIS IS A STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS ENTRY BECAUSE I AM SWAMPED.....BUT READ IT... DUDE.

I'll see you in another life brother...

I'm a little thrown now - this goes with one of my theories that the flashbacks were parallel time, but I am still not sure that is what is going on. So, now the question is -- are they really flashbacks or are they really parallel times? Only Desmond is aware that he is back in time however. Everyone else's flashbacks were simply, well, flashbacks!

The numbers were back. Delivery for 815! Of course Desmond has great familiarity with the numbers.

The freaky women in the shop was awesome. Who is she and how does she know? I like this actress, she always plays interesting roles - mom in Transamerica..also a bit wicked in that movie. Her name is Fionnula Flannagan...she's also been in Nip/Tuck, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and many, many more.

So, Desmond sees Charlie on the street and he knows him....I loved it! Desmond seems to have broken through--he doesn't instantly know Charlie, but it starts coming back to him.

Who is Desmond's friend he discusses time travel with? Haven't we seen him before? Donovan?

Penny really, really loves Desmond despite the fact he is poor - he is a good man. Haven't we heard something like that before - We're the good ones, the good guys. But she calls him a coward too....
....How did Desmond change his mind so quickly on the the "fate" aspect -- we are not supposed to be together....

"Never done this before have you" "I can always tell the first-timers"
-- I think she meant more than just the first time he has bought a ring. Playing a role? Someone who has been through this before. The FATE MASTER? She seems to refer to everything that happens as the future though, so kind of messes with my parallel time theory. Ugh, confusing, but GREAT! Is he dreaming?
"You don't do it because you choose to, you do it because you're supposed to"
....predestination? "You may not like your part Desmond, but pushing that button Desmond is the only truly great thing you will ever do."

SUCKER!

I like Desmond finding out he was really correct about the soccer game and the guy showing up in the bar....but as he was warned, he can't change it and he ends up back on the island, but with a head wound right after the hatch blew -- so, do we believe that he was injured and had a dream sequence or do we believe he really went back in time or to another parallel time? I guess we will find out.

And finally, the greatest revelation of the whole show.....it's Charlie he has been trying to save. Charlie - don't call Desmond a coward...he isn't fond of that word.

You are a "good" man Charlie. Again, a "good" man.

"I wasn't saving Claire Charlie, I was saving you."
Charlie is gonna die. I love this..this is really a high-brow Final Destination! Love it!

Wankered....good old English word we all need to start using here in the states.

PREDESTINATION: the doctrine that God in consequence of his foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides

those who are destined for salvation -- ISN'T THIS PART OF EKO'S DEMISE? HE WASN'T DESTINED FOR SALVATION?

Read more here: http://www.allaboutgod.com/predestination.htm

Here is some of what it says (whether you believe it or not, this is what it says)
Predestination – A Decree
Predestination is the decree of God by which certain souls are foreordained to salvation -- called the elect.

Again, this is a concept that many see as somehow unfair. However, all of the attributes of God allow Him to know history in advance. Therefore, it can be said that we are "preordained" or elected by pre-knowledge because time has no rule over God. But, didn't God give man volition (exercising one’s own will)? The answer to that is yes, however, since God is all knowing He already knows the outcome of the choices men will make and He uses those choices to bring about His purpose.

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory” (Romans 8:28-30).

God has made salvation possible for anyone who wants it. He already knows who will accept His plan of salvation. This does not negate man's choice; rather it is confirmation of God's grace that some do choose salvation. Predestination means to mark out or determine before hand. Predestination may raise some intellectual problems, but that is because man tries to wrap his finite mind around an infinite God. However, those who accept the gift of salvation become the “elect” of God.
”Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago” (Ephesians 1:11).

“But people who aren't Christians can't understand these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

We made this cool LOST/The Office trailer mash-up for this week’s Office episode directed by J.J. Abrams.

LOST in the Office

February 15, 2007

Ha! For those who dislike Charlie

Here's what Television Without Pity had to say about Charlie's preordained death:

And get this: Desmond's been trying to save Charlie. Because the universe wants to kill Charlie. Hee! My question: since Desmond knows the future can't be changed, why's he knocking himself out? The universe will have its way. Course-correcting, dude. Sorry, Charlie.

Get the full TWOP breakdown here.

The Desmond episode

Loved it. Great episode, full of intrigue and quirky humor, bringing us back to the Lost I fell in love with.

Some first impressions:

Straight talk: My relief was immense when Locke simply said "The island killed him" when talking to Hurley and Charlie about Eko's death. I have had it with the complications that result when people on this show hide or distort their experiences. What a relief that there is no weak cover story to keep up with in light of Eko's grim demise.

Beautiful back story: Desmond and Penny, what a great love story, even if Desmond is swayed too dramatically by the cold-blooded father instead of fighting for with what is right for both of them.

I love stories where people can be seen as being on a journey to reach for greatness or to realize their true potential. Still, I think Desmond was in fact being swayed onto the wrong path with the message he was receiving that pushing the button was his chance to accomplish something of consequence. Desmond and other Losties often seem to be easily manipulated when it comes to not being "good enough" in some fashion, so I wouldn't necessarily buy what any apparent messenger of fate (that's you, white-haired ring-bearer) is selling.

And then there's Charlie: I have to admit, I totally took the bait and thought that Claire was the one targeted for death that Desmond was trying to save.

I was a Charlie fan in the early days, but eventually moved to the "Charlie is a wanker" camp as more and more irritating traits and actions piled up. (For example, there's the way he disparages Claire's mothering skills. Because some random drug-using musician is so much better qualified to care for an infant than the woman who gave birth. Also, it would be nice if a man, any man, could talk to Claire for five minutes without getting the Charlie evil eye.)

But still, being informed of your imminent death by someone who seems to have an inside track is super-creepy and sad, so I did feel for him. Here's the thing: I don't think Charlie will end up dying, even though it seems to be set up as inevitable. I think this Charlie-marked-for-death moment will come into play within all the inevitable twists we will get from the time-travel storylines. Desmond is starting to believe that he can't really change anything, no matter what he does. But maybe that's not true, especially if the Others (or others we don't know about) are deliberately working to manipulate time.

Comments

WOOOO HOOOO! Was my reaction when Desmond spoke those sweet, sweet words. Charlie, you're going to die, brother!

Maybe that wasn't exactly it, or maybe I just like the way Desmond says "brother." Either way, I truly hope you are wrong, Pam, in that I most definitely want Charlie to get the Eko treatment from the Big Bad Invisible Mechanical Polar Bear Black Smoke Monster Thingy. The sooner the better, I say.

I do LOVE the way he says brother...if only I could have THAT accent. Yum.

I like the way desmond says brother too. so much i googled it and found this !

Dude, how'd you know?

I love Hurley. He cracks me up with his "Dude!" this and "Dude!" that. But he really doesn't have much to do with this blog entry... So here goes.
Okay - Desmond Hume is just one Hot Scot. Omigosh... the flashback or do-over or whatever it was of his real life ... whew. Somebody got a fan? He's a hottie.
Okay, okay. I'm back now.
I absolutely loved this episode. Fantastic. I really appreciated how some things came full circle in this one show. The "coward" comment. The whiskey brand. The photograph.
We've all had experiences of dejavu, but Desmond's took us on a journey of what was, what is and what will be. And then, there's fate. The absolute truth of one's life that cannot be changed. It might be deterred momentarily or delayed, but the meaning of one's life -- or death -- will find a way to be realized. That is such an amazing concept to me... that our lives' paths are already written... in a way.
"The universe has a way of course-correcting," said the lovely white-haired lady who became the scary witchy woman. Desmond's Greatness was to go to the island and save the world by turning the key. All that said, what's ahead for Charlie? We know he's going to die, at some point. I'm sure there's something hidden here. I haven't had a chance to research MacCutcheons, yet. I wonder if there's something to that. I'll get back to you on that... And can somebody help me with the significance of the numbers? I'm sure it's obvious, but I'm not getting it right off: 1:08 on the clock.. and "Delivery for 815."

Comments

1:08 is what the numbers add up to, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42...delivery for 815, flight 815, the one that brought them all to the island, Oceanic flight 815...also, dont forget the line...if my father is to duff to hire you, "it's not the end of the world"....interesting

Also the way the delivery guy said it, it sounded like "Delivery Four Eight Fifteen."

February 14, 2007

Freaking me out...

I'm not totally finished with tonight's episode (02/14), but what a complete freak-out.

The show is back to jaw-dropping weirdness and I love it.

Desmond's seeming ability to fortune-tell (time-travel) plays into last week's secret message (see prior post) and the producers hinting that the "hatch event" may have something to do with time-distortion.

Awesome.

More tomorrow.

UPDATE: WOW! Charlie destined to die! Could Desmond be wrong like he was with the Soccer game? This episode ROCKED!

Comments

People are on the Island to serve a purpose. Like the lady said after the gentelman in the red tennis shoes was killed... Something to the affect that, you can try to change the course but life always corrects itself. As the world is destined to end maybe DARMA has found a way to delay the event every 108 minutes. Also, let me add a little known fact that approx. every 300,000 years or so the poles change polarity on Earth which would destroy life as we know it through a series of events. That would explain the elecromagnetic distubance presant after failing to punch in the number sequence... Alas a breakthrough???

But Desmond wasn't wrong with the soccer game.
It was just the wrong day, it happened later when he was alone.

did anyone notice that as soon as Desmond changed the outcome of the bar scene he ended up back on the island. **earlier desmond says that his friend comes into the bar and hits the bartender with a cricket bat, but desmond got in the way this time and after ended up back on the island**

A Random Jack thought

jack.jpg
Wouldn't it be cool if Jack showed up on Grey's Anatomy along with Juliet as a little ABC cross-show promotion? I think they could do it with a flashback, no? We could see him operating on the little girl with her nerves spilling out while Izzie, McDreamy, Cristina and friends watch the surgery. Oh, wait...this is the LOST blog...not the Grey's Blog...whoops! :) Don't tell me what I can't do!

Comments messed up

I was trying to cut back on the ridiculous amount of junk comments we receive, so I tured on the spam filter.

It looks like it has weeded out everyone.

I've turn it down a notch... so if you have recently commented, try again.

Sorry bout that!

Not in Portland? No kidding...

I'm new to the LOST bloggers - so bear with me.

First - I'm so glad to have a true connection to the mainland. Now, things like the polar bear, the hatches with loads of food, Kate's Horse and some of the other - formerly, utterly, SILLY things to me - make complete sense. And for this 'Type-A' person... I like it when dots connect. So we're closer to understanding the origins of the Dharma community of freaks.

The brainwashing scene was extremely disturbing. I couldn't help but think of EGGS though. The creation of life, all the circular shaped objects on the screen, they all tied in - to me, anyway - with the fertility experiment that led to Juliet's recruitment. I also wondered if anything stuck with Sawyer, since he seemed to zone out for a little bit.
I am betting Juliet has been up to some pretty creepy things since she was taken to 'Portland'. We know her experiment caught their attention, so....'Show me the Baby' so to speak. (Random thought: Was the slide presentation shown to Juliet hilarious or what? I KNEW something was up when the guy showed the cheesy 'happy family' photos - and the bicyclists.) But it was a goosebump, hair-stands-up-on-the-back-of-your-neck moment when the guys from 'Portland' showed up at the morgue. Ewwww. Scawy. These guys mean business. For a while, I thought Juliet was one of the leaders on her island. It's clear, now, she's as much of a prisoner as Jack is. And there's no doubt in my mind that Ben will go back on his word, and he won't let her go. He likes to control and toy with people too much.

There's something weird with Kate and Jack. Could they be related? Sort of a Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia kind of love happening there? And Sawyer is her Hans Solo? There is definitely love there. A strong kind of love. It's just a weird love.

And I guess the purple sky caused the plane crash because nobody pressed the button?

That's it from me. I'm missin' Locke. Ready to see him.

Comments

Perhaps Ben will let Juliet go. After all, it appears he may have a replacement doctor, Jack.

Alex in Not in Portland

Whenever I see Alex charge onto the scene with her slingshot, I flash back to scenes from Return of the Jedi where the Ewoks manage to take down the Empire's heavy-duty weaponry armed with rocks, vines and teddy-bear-like cuteness. If Alex can cause this much trouble with her little slingshot, the Others would do well to keep her away from the actual guns.

Disturbing Ewok memories aside, I really felt bad for Alex, fighting to save her boyfriend and flee only to remain left behind on Other island in the end. I didn't know what to make of the references to Ben as her father -- isn't she supposed to be Rousseau's long-lost, stolen daughter? Do the Others claim the captive children as their own, and she was lucky enough to draw Ben, or is he actually supposed to be her bio-dad?

Here's hoping that Karl will be capable of providing some useful information once the great escape is complete.

Comments

So Carlton Cuse revealed these things in an advanced screening of last night's "Lost" at Harvard:

a. Alex is Ben's daughter
b. an anagram in the episode would hint at the future direction of the series

"Mittelos" is probably the anagram (lost time), and strange things happen with time throughout the series, along with hints such as a character reading "A Wrinkle in Time."

Not in Portland from Johna...

I absolutely loved this show! I think it gave us more context of how some of these people ended up on the island and also indicates that there are definitely a lot of wacky experiments going on to alter people and make them conform to the Jacobian society!

Here are some of my observations:

Juliet
So, we found out that little miss Juliet had been stealing drugs for fertility for her sister even in her previous life. So, she had proven that her ethics weren't on the straight and narrow - a perfect recruit for this rogue group of scientists or whatever they are!

The fact that Ethan passed her in the hallway to her sister's flat also was suspicious - either they had been stalking Juliet to recruit her or Ethan was drugging Rachel to get her pregnant...she didn't realize she had fallen asleep when Juliet arrived to shoot her up with a baby. Hmmmm. Remember the whole Rachel bible connection I mentioned last season - maybe not a plot point, but definitely part of the writer mythology.

I am pretty sure we have discovered that by the time you have been recruited or crashed to this island - hell or high water - you will do just about anything to get off the island. Hence, Juliet's pretty scary attitude about saving Ben and killing whomever she needed -- all to get off the island. Now that they have Jack, I am guessing they are more willing to let Juliet go - although I have read that she is in at least 5 or 6 episodes for sure this season. So, we also know that they will take whatever measures necessary to get the people they want on that island...they hit Edmund, Juliet's ex with a bus to take care of the obstacle they had in recruiting Juliet.

The vials of medicine Juliet was stealing only said "Test Sample" on them.

Juliet said she had been on the island for 3 years, 2 months and 28 days. Ben told her they would finally let her go home if she saved him and let Sawyer and Kate go. I really doubt it, but maybe?

I like this quote to Juliet:

"Well, actually, we're not quite in Portland."

Sawyer/Kate
I loved that Sawyer rammed Pickett's head into the very button that he had struggled with during his entrapment in the bear cage. Looks like Kate maybe loves Jack as much as she lusts Sawyer. Poor Sawyer just stood there watching her connect with Jack when they were making their escape. Maybe Kate was brought here simply to play Jack against Sawyer and vice versa. With all of the Jacobian references, I decided to read a little more about Jacob and Esau. The reference I read interpreted Jacob as a "con" man. So, while we know Sawyer probably isn't Jacob (or?) he is a con man...just another layer of the Lost writers mythology.

I thought the "escape" from the island was interesting considering the Others know right where to go to bring them back. It wasn't really an escape was it? What is the point?

Jack
Not a lot to say, except Jack is pretty much doomed it seems:

Until "They" figure out what to do with you. "They".
MMMMMMM...good stuff.

What was on the screen in the brainwash room?
- Plant a good seed and you will joyfully gather fruit
- Everything Changes
- We are the causes of our own suffering
- God Loves you as he loved Jacob
- Think About Your Life

So, we see the Jacob references again when we find Karl in the Clockwork Orange -like brainwashing room.

"Plant a good seed and you will joyfully gather fruit"
....this is a quote from Dhammapada.
According to Wikipedia: The Dhammapada (Pali ??????, translates as Path of the Dharma. Also Prakrit Dhamapada, Sanskrit Dharmapada) is a Buddhist scripture, containing 423 verses in 26 categories. According to tradition, these are answers to questions put to the Buddha on various occasions, most of which deal with ethics. A fifth century commentary by Buddhaghosa includes 305 stories which give context to the verses. [1]

The Dhammapada is a popular section of the Pali Tipitaka and is considered one of the most important pieces of Theravada literature.

Although the Pali edition is the most well known, a Gandhari edition written in Kharosthi and a seemingly related text in Sanskrit known as the Udanavarga have also been discovered.

Despite being a primarily Theravada text, the Dhammapada is read by many Mahayana Buddhists and remains a very popular text across all schools of Buddhism.

But, here is something else I found on http://homepage.mac.com/clearintent/snowlion/wisdom_3truths.html
1. Nothing is lost in the universe
The first truth is that nothing is lost in the universe. Matter turns into energy, energy turns into matter. A dead leaf turns into soil. A seed sprouts and becomes a new plant. Old solar systems disintegrate and turn into cosmic rays. We are born of our parents, our children are born of us.

We are the same as plants, as trees, as other people, as the rain that falls. We consist of that which is around us, we are the same as everything. If we destroy something around us, we destroy ourselves. If we cheat another, we cheat ourselves. Understanding this truth, the Buddha and his disciples never killed any animal.

2. Everything Changes
The second universal truth of the Buddha is that everything is continuously changing. Life is like a river flowing on and on, ever changing. Sometimes it flows slowly and sometimes swiftly. It is smooth and gentle in some places, but later on it snags and rocks crop up out of nowhere. As soon as we think we are safe, something unexpected happens.

Once dinosaurs, mammoths, and saber-toothed tigers roamed this earth. They all died out, yet this was not the end of life. Other life forms like smaller mammals appeared, and eventually humans, too. Now we can even see the Earth from space and understand the changes that have taken place on this planet. Our ideas about life also change. People once believed that the world was flat, but now we know that it is round.

3. Law of Cause and Effect

The third universal truth explained by the Buddha is that there is continuous changes due to the law of cause and effect. This is the same law of cause and effect found in every modern science textbook. In this way, science and Buddhism are alike.

The law of cause and effect is known as karma. . Our thoughts and actions determine the kind of life we can have. Every moment we create new karma by what we say, do, and think. If we understand this, we do not need to fear karma. It becomes our friend. It teaches us to create a bright future.

The Buddha said,
"The kind of seed sown
will produce that kind of fruit.
Those who do good will reap good results.
Those who do evil will reap evil results.
If you carefully plant a good seed,
You will joyfully gather good fruit."
- Dhammapada

Multnomah County, Oregon does exist. But interestingly enough Multnomah is an anagram for 'human molt'. Kinda fits into the human experimentation we've been warned about.

When jack checks out Juliets branding look at her tummy, she is hiding a blue plaster on her tummy...looks like they prob branded her with her own pregnancy miracle injection. Further on in the episode you catch a glimpse of the blue plaster she is trying to hide!

Yeah it's clear that it's referring to the Biblical Jacob, father of the 12 sons who create the 12 tribes of Israel in the old-testament. There appears to be some religious symbology, also, in "Lost". I'm not a regular viewer of the show, but I have seen it a few times, and it is interesting--although violent, with the many shootings and killings and suchlike. Still seems to have some quite interesting content in its plotlines, though.

Not in Portland

This episode brought up a ton of new theories and mysteries!

• What really happened when "the sky turned purple" as Mr. Friendly (Tom) says? Why is it preventing everyone from getting off the island?

• What's Juliet's and Ben's "history"?

• Is Mittelos an anagram for "lost time"? Is the island some sort of time anomaly?

• Was Jacob's name in the brainwashing film a clue referring to Jacob, the true leader of the island?

• Were the Others recruited to be on the island the way Juliet was?

• What's the deal with Karl... and the brainwashing film... and the weird drum-and-bass/rave music?

I think the purple sky caused their navigation etc. to crash? I think tom and ben talked about this earlier.

And with that thought, where the heck are michael and walt going?

Everything changes (on the screen in Room 23) is an anagram for:

SEARCH EGG ENVY HINT

and

EGGS NEVER HATCH YIN

Then again, it is also an anagram for

EVE CHANGES THY RING
THEY SERVE CHANGING
CAVERNS EGG HEY HINT
CAVERN THE SHINY EGG
CARVE GENE NIGHT SHY

and even

ACNE VERGE NIGHT SHY

The phrase recorded backwards on the Room 23 video, "Only Fools Are Enslaved By Time and Space" can be turned into an anagram that includes the words "Adam and Eve"! Can anyone help figure out the rest?

Watch Here (click 'Launch' and select LOST... it's to the far right of the episodes)

Hurry before it airs!

February 6, 2007

Has anyone found the 'Survivor Guide' show?

Has anyone found the re-cap show promised by ABC?

I see two re-cap shows available on their site, but they look old.

Fresh Start

OK, no more ARG stuff.

Just the LOST show and a slightly modified blog.

I don't know what color that nav should be over there >

Tell me.

One more day to go... ABC has yet to post the "Survivor Guide," I will let you know when they do.

February 5, 2007

'Lost Survivor Guide,' one day earlier

Only two more days until a new LOST and a new LOST re-cap show: 'Lost Survivor Guide.'

Even better news, the re-cap show will be available online at wfaa.com/abc (and some other site called Yahoo!) a whole day earlier than when it airs! So watch it Tuesday, here.
